Amari Burns
Amari Burns (circa 1975–2053) was a Black American firefighter, paramedic, and Battalion Chief with the Baltimore City Fire Department. A lifelong Baltimore resident, he was the father of Caleb Burns and the longtime best friend of Nathan Weston. He died in 2053 after developing metastatic prostate cancer.
Early Life and Background
Amari was born circa 1975 and lived in Baltimore. He met Nathan in middle school, beginning a friendship that lasted for more than thirty-five years and continued until both men died in 2053.
Career
Amari served with the Baltimore City Fire Department as a firefighter and paramedic before becoming a Battalion Chief. In that role, he reported to the department’s headquarters on East Fayette Street.
Health and Disabilities
Amari developed late-stage metastatic prostate cancer with chronic pain and incontinence. He died in 2053 at approximately seventy-eight years old, not long after Nathan’s death. Caleb cared for him during his final illness.

Caleb was Amari’s son. Amari became Caleb’s primary parent after his marriage to Denise ended when Caleb was fifteen. After Amari developed late-stage prostate cancer, Caleb became his primary caregiver.
